This is the biggest work I've done yet. The diameter of the circle is 80 cm and the weight with the chains is 17,5 kg. There are ten lamps so beside having a massive look it also illuminates really well.
My friend Risto wanted an electrified chandelier in resemblance to the wooden version where the candles are on top of an old cartwheel. But as I'm not a carpenter I made it entirely from iron. I used a lot of rivets in joints to bring it closer to traditional blacksmith work. I made the chains myself. Also instead of painting I did the surface finishing by burning tar on it. This added an even more "old" feel with the less polished look.
All in all a highly interesting project and Risto was extremely happy with the outcome.
This is just too good, even your wirework to support the lights to come on is neatly done, and in fact, blends in with the metalwork very well. At first I thought the wiring was part of the piece.
Morbid, elegant, fine, and daring, are the words that define what you do!
You have depicted and made pieces of work that were unlikely to be created by anyone, and that really amazes me. You have [no idea] how much I truly appreciate your work!
And I truly appreciate these kind of comments. They further help me believe in what I do and show me that the effort and dedication has not gone in vain.
